Privacy Policy
How OpenRun handles your information, and the choices you have.

Overview
This Privacy Policy explains what information OpenRun handles when you use the app and website, why, and what choices you have. It is written to describe the app as it is built today; where a feature is described with “if”, it may not be available to everyone.
Account and profile information
You may sign in with Sign in with Apple. We receive an identifier for your account from Apple, and, if you allow it, your name. You can choose a display name and an optional profile photo. This information is used to identify you in the app and to show you on the games you host or join.
Usernames and public profiles
Your display name and optional photo can be seen by other OpenRun users, including on the rosters of games you join, on join requests you send, and next to messages you post. Choose a name and photo you are comfortable sharing.
Contacts and invitations
OpenRun does not read your contacts. If you share a game using a link, the information in that link and the game it points to will be visible to whoever opens it.
Approximate and precise location
If you allow it, OpenRun uses your device’s location while the app is in use to show nearby games, distances, and directions. This is used on your device. We do not upload your device location to OpenRun’s servers. When you view a game’s weather, the app sends an approximate location, rounded to about one kilometre, to a weather data provider.
Map searches
When you search for a venue or get directions, your search text and the area you are looking at are handled by Apple’s mapping services under Apple’s privacy policy.
Court and event locations
When a host creates a game, its title, sport, time, venue name, coordinates, and other details are stored in a shared database so that other people can find it. Treat any location you publish as visible to others.
Event participation and check-in information
OpenRun stores who hosts a game, who has joined, who is waiting or has asked to join, and messages posted on a game. If check-in or arrival features are available, the information they create is treated the same way as other participation information.
Public and private game visibility
Games are stored in a shared database and may be visible to other OpenRun users, including the host’s name, participants’ names, and the meeting location. Precise meeting points and participant visibility deserve care: only publish a location you are comfortable making visible, and consider a public meeting point.
Device and usage information
The app stores your settings and recent activity on your device. OpenRun does not include third-party advertising or tracking tools. Standard information such as your IP address is handled by the services the app connects to, such as Apple’s iCloud.
Analytics
The current version of the app does not include third-party analytics. If that changes, we will update this policy.
Crash reports
If you choose to share diagnostics with app developers in your device’s settings, Apple may provide us with aggregated crash reports. We do not collect crash reports ourselves in the current version.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, OpenRun can remind you about games you have joined and tell you about join requests and decisions. These reminders are created on your device. You can turn them off in the app’s Settings or in your device’s notification settings.
Apple Health and Calendar
These features are optional. If you allow Apple Health access, OpenRun can read your exercise minutes for the day and save a workout for a game you choose to log; this stays in Apple Health and on your device and is not sent to OpenRun’s servers. If you add a game to your calendar, OpenRun can add an event but cannot read your existing events.
App-store purchases
The current version of OpenRun does not offer in-app purchases. If paid features are added, purchases will be handled by the app store you use, and we will update this policy.
Service providers
OpenRun uses Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit) to store games, join requests, messages, reports, and profiles. Apple acts as a service provider for that storage.
Third-party services
The app uses Apple services (Sign in with Apple, Maps, iCloud, Health, Calendar, and notifications) and a weather data provider. Those services handle information under their own privacy policies.
Data retention
Games, requests, messages, and profiles are kept until they are deleted or until you use the in-app delete option. Copies that other people have already seen or saved may remain with them. Reports may be kept for as long as needed to keep the community safe.
Data security
We use reasonable measures, including the protections of Apple’s services, to keep information safe. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
User choices and permissions
You can choose whether to sign in, add a photo, allow location, allow notifications, connect Apple Health, and add games to your calendar. You can change these choices at any time in the app or in your device’s Settings. Some features will not work without the permissions they need.
Location controls
To change location access, open your device’s Settings, choose Privacy & Security, then Location Services, and select OpenRun. You can turn location off entirely and still browse the map.
Account deletion
In the app, open Settings and choose “Delete my data”. This removes the games you host, your join requests, messages, reports, and profile from OpenRun’s shared database and clears the app’s local data on your device. You can also email us at support@tryopenrun.com to ask for help.
Children’s privacy
OpenRun is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will take steps to remove it.
International processing
Information may be processed and stored in countries other than where you live, including through Apple’s infrastructure. Those countries may have different data-protection rules.
Policy updates
We may update this policy as the app changes. We will post the new version here and update its date, and will tell you in the app if the changes are significant.
